Shopping is My Cardio – Olympics in Rio

By on 17/08/2016

I’m not a sporty person.

On the occasion of the Olympic Games in Rio, I deep dived into Brazilian fashion and the local boutiques instead.

If you suspect that their options are limited to beachwear and plastic flip-flops – you are completely wrong! Yes, swimsuits are exceptionally enticing and expose the most attractive qualities of the body, and Ipanema flip-flops or rubber Melissa shoes need no introduction (by the way: do you know how many substitutes the word “flip-flop” has? Glossary at the end of this post), but that’s not everything, that Brazilian fashion has to offer.

Below you’ll find a selection of the most interesting brands, worth of your attention during a trip to the land of the Sun! For your convenience I have divided them into groups, so it’s easy to find something in your style.

DESIGN

Lita Mortari

is best known for the high-quality formalwear. There’s also a lot of  well-thought and perfectly constructed, ready-to-wear outfits.

LITA MORTARI

Reinaldo Lourenço

is also an option for women who are looking for something unique for the evening.

Uma

takes pride in its particularly impressive creative approach to fabrics that bring out the “spatiality” of each design. Uma collections are well-thought in every detail and will certainly please the art lovers.

Osklen

has been combining the opposites – the nature and the city, ecology and technology, for years. Collections of this brand are heavily inspired by sport, which does not stop them from suggesting sophisticated styles, ideal for wearing in the urban jungle.

Alexandre Herchcovitch

has made himself known to a wider audience during the fashion weeks in New York, London and Paris, gaining the recognition for his avant-guarde approach to the classics and his original prints.

PARTY

BO.BÔ

is a favorite brand of Brazilian models. It has the hot rhythm of the night club, sunny beach and typical Latin sex appeal in it.

BEACH AND SPORT

Ipanema

makes probably the most famous flip-flops in the world (flip-flops in New Zealand are  known as jandals, as chappal in Hawaii, as qainchi chappals in India, thongs in Australia and Canada, slops in South Africa, ojotas in Spain or Chinelos in Brazil). Available in hundreds of colors and models.

Melissa

brought the rubber sole shoes back in fashion.  But Melissa’s rubber is no ordinary material – it has the ability to breathe, won’t hurt your feet and it doesn’t smell! The brand’s potential is appreciated by renowned designers, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Campana, Gareth Pugh or Jason Wu, who regularly work with Melissa on special collections.

Well, as you can see, Brazil is not only for sports and beaches 😉

So anytime in Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo – you know what to look for. Happy shopping! (It burns calories, too)

I'm Bo - founder of ShopTrotter and BoldOld Blog I kind of like fashion - meaning: I like to look good, but spending too much time shopping is something that makes me feel overwhelmed. Besides of that - I have a walk-in closet full of wonderful stuff that I use once in 1-2 years... I know, it's outreagous! So I decided to start the Instagram account and try to reuse pieces I own for a long time, without compromising on fashion and style. My new motto is to re-create and re-cycle, instead of buying new stuff over and over. Now I shop consciously - buying only the items that complement my other clothes.
